PROPOSED DUTY ELIMINATION FOR CERTAIN CANADIAN GOODS

Canada’s Department of Finance has proposed to eliminate duties for their Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) tariff rates on goods used in the production of other goods and machinery and equipment.   The intention is to support Canadian businesses facing economic challenges as a result of the global economic crisis.  This could be an excellent opportunity for U.S. companies looking to do business in Canada.

A list of the items that affect goods in 35 chapters of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule has been published in the Canada Gazette which is Canada’s official government publication, similar to the Federal Register in the U.S.
