Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Petitions May be Submitted Starting Oct. 11
The petitions approved in the most recent Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) are set to expire on December 31, 2020. Approved MTB’s can suspend or reduce duties on imported goods if there is no sufficient domestic production or availability and result in significant savings. The US International Trade Commission (USITC) will open a portal on Friday, October 11 for submitting petitions for tariff suspensions and reductions under MTB and will close on December 10, 2019.
Specific information is required to be submitted in the petition and the USITC will publish all petitions that contain the required information and related disclosure forms on its website in January, 2020. After a 45-day public comment period, the USITC will submit a final list of approved petitions to Congress for approval of the MTB. This process could be approved as soon as the Fall of 2020.
