Lithium Ion Batteries
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently released an update to include additional changes being proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization Air Navigation Commission (ICAO ANC) for requirements relating to the air transport of Lithium Ion Batteries.
It has been recommended that stand-alone lithium ion batteries (UN 3480, PI965 only) be forbidden for carriage as cargo on passenger aircraft but went on to state the recommended prohibition does not apply to lithium ion batteries packed with equipment or lithium ion batteries contained in equipment.
April 1, 2016 is the expected deadline for the implementation of the prohibition, although this has not been confirmed.
