FDA Food Facility Registration Renewal
Under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) domestic and foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food for human or animal consumption in the U.S. are required to register with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Registration must be renewed every other year between October 1st and December 31st of each even numbered year.
Beginning January 1, 2015, foreign food facilities which are subject to FMSA registration that do not register/renew their registration by December 31, 2014, could have their shipments held at the port of arrival.
F.H. Kaysing encourages food importers whose products are subject to the FSMA to confirm that the foreign facility(s) they do business with are registered with FDA and provide their Customs broker with any new registration numbers to avoid delays.
