Multiple refrigerated containers processed in the port of Kat Lai,Vietnam have exploded and killed three dockworkers in Vietnam and Brazil. It is speculated that contaminated gas in the container’s cooling units caused the explosions. MSNBC reports that approximately 8,000 of these containers could be in circulation.
Refrigerated containers transported through or originating in Vietnam are being identified upon arrival in the United States. Containers from Kat Lai will be isolated for special handling. Several carriers have removed containers from circulation that underwent refrigeration repairs in Vietnam. Delays or deviations to shipments could become an issue.
